Spoon River Transmission Line Project
News Summary
Peoria, Galesburg Map Route for Transmission
Galesburg and Peoria representatives will learn about the proposed Spoon River Transmission Line Project at Focus Group meetings to be held in Peoria (March 4) and Galesburg (March 5). Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois (ATXI) proposes to build the 345,000-volt Spoon River Transmission Line between Galesburg and Peoria. The project was approved in 2011 by the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) and the organization has designated it as one of their Multi-Value Projects. “It’s gone through all the planning stages as far as ‘Do we need the project?’ What we don’t know is the route – how the transmission line is going to get from point A to point B,” said Peggy Ladd of ATXI. Ladd said the improvement in the transmission network will benefit the public through less congestion and better access to cost-effective generation. There will be good news specific to Peoria and Galesburg as Ladd estimated there would be 100 new jobs created throughout the project’s duration.
